My Experience
I had a tooth extracted – it had gone bad due to my negligence — and the space really bothered me. So I decided to get an implant.
I was seated in the dental chair and got numb almost immediately. The doctor then went over with me the possible complications that can occur from the surgery. I signed the consent form for the surgery and the doctor and his assistant got to work. They used a laser to expose the bone under my gums for the implant. After that they started drilling to the correct depth needed to insert my implant. They took an X-ray to make sure they were where they should be. They continued to drill to the width they needed to place the implant. They used an instrument that looked like a wrench to torque down the implant and when it was down all the way, they put a little cap over it. I needed a few stitches to close up my gums afterward.
I felt great during and after the procedure. I didn’t feel any pain. The only thing that bothered me was all the different noises that I heard. My gums were a little bit sore afterward but nothing an Advil didn’t cure. I also had to take an antibiotic that upset my stomach a little bit.
My Advice
Be prepared to hear lots of noise and have a little gum soreness after the procedure.
